As national leaders in remote patient monitoring (RPM), the Remote Monitoring Leadership Council (RMLC) applauds the Caucus’ Medicare Advantage Improvement Act (MAIA) (H.R. 8375). While we support Medicare Advantage, we believe this legislation will help address recent inappropriate coverage decisions that are not grounded in clinical evidence.
Though basic covered service parity between MA and Traditional Medicare is required by statute, there have been actions from MA plans that have created uncertainty in patient care, particularly around the requirement for parity in RPM access between MA and Traditional Medicare beneficiaries. Requiring consistent medical necessity criteria between MA and Traditional Medicare will help ensure access to RPM services for tens of thousands of seniors and ensure these services remain a robust offering in the MA program for beneficiaries who rely on market-driven innovation and supplemental benefits.
We look forward to continuing the discussion on how the MA program can fully embrace technology-enabled care like RPM services to ensure patients, providers, and plans have access to the most effective care management tools possible.
