This study demonstrates the association between remote patient monitoring (RPM) with care coaching and a significant reduction in high blood pressure in Medicare patients.
- RPM plays a supportive role in managing chronic diseases and enhancing patient engagement.
- RPM was associated with a 75% reduction in stage 2 hypertension over 12 months.
- Patients benefited from real-time health monitoring and proactive care interventions.
Hypertension remains a significant public health concern worldwide, contributing to a substantial burden of cardiovascular disease and related mortality and leading to an annual health care cost of approximately $131 billion in the US. Annual medical costs for individuals with hypertension are up to $2500 higher than for those without the condition. The annual cost of providing RPM is $1260, approximately half the cost of unsuccessfully treated hypertension.
